Recruiting An Agent That Is Only Concerned About Commission Split

I was talking with a real estate agent last week that has told me in the past, that she hates getting real estate recruiting letters but would sit down with a real estate recruiter if she got a phone call.

So, she finally got a phone call and she asked the real estate recruiter, “What is your commission split?”

The real estate recruiter choked. The recruiters response according to the agent was something like, “Lets get together first and I will be happy to share with you our split.”

Wrong answer. Guess what our real estate agent did? She replied with a ‘not interested’ and hung up. This is a real estate agent that is open to the idea of meeting with a real estate recruiter and the recruiter blew it.

How would you have answered that question? And we already know the wrong way to answer it, so thank you to that recruiter.

  1. Interesting articles and very nice blog! Recruiters sometimes act just like finishing their courses and dealing with first “victim”. They forget that also the other side is experienced, well trained and familiar with psychology! It is funny they sometimes use really cheap tricks to recriut “experienced” agent. Our team has long experience with houses for sale in Toronto and we have met many people and many characters, not only as clients…

  2. Thanks for the comment Julie Kinnear Team. I’m interested in knowing…
How long of you been at Royal LePage?
How have real estate recruiters approached in before?
Have real estate recruiters approaced you before?

  3. Perhaps when the recruiter called she should have come in person. Some people like to talk one on one and explain there full agenda and not be hung up on. The recruiter knew the response would get a hung up phone and hence the hedging.

Sometimes you can offer to take them to lunch and present there services and that may have got there foot in the door.

  4. Port OH,

Thanks for the idea, so what I hear you saying, is the recruiter should have side stepped and said something like, “I’ll be excited to share with your compensation plans…when is a good time for us to grab a cup of coffee so that I can go over that info with you?”
